Income Eco Run A Run towards a Greener Future

The Income Eco Run brings together the benefits of running and caring for the environment. Nearly 3,000 participants not only experienced the fun and health benefits of running, but also contributed to a greener future through their personal actions. For every kilometre ran, Income Eco Run will donate a matching amount to the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) to support the goal of zero waste and the Singapore Green Plan 2030! For the fourth year running, Tzu Chi volunteers were invited to be partners to promote environmental protection at the event. This year, the organiser bravely made more changes in the race, taking a big step towards the goal of “zero waste”.

Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu: You are here not just for run (or) for your own fitness, we are running against climate change, doing something to the environment, you want to be part of eco run, right? (yeah!)

Over the past four years, Tzu Chi volunteers and the organisers have effectively worked together to implement the 5Rs for the environment.

Tzu Chi volunteer, Susan Tan: Working with them over the past four years, we can see that they first consider refusing, if it doesn't work, then reducing, and then promoting it through our volunteers here so that what can go into the recycling bin will go into it.

Managing Director at Esprimo Pte Ltd  Ang Han Wee: So impressed with Tzu Chi, how Tzu Chi can support us from the first race until now, educating people, understanding how to throw something into the right sorting bin, so that the recycling process can be faster and better and correct。

In order to get closer to the “zero waste” goal, the organiser is bravely making changes for 2023.
1.Smaller race bibs
2.Optional T-shirt
3.Reusable cups
4.E-certificates

Managing Director at Esprimo Pte Ltd  Ang Han Wee: Commercially, operationally, we are so afraid to do this, but if we never try, we will never know, less production actually equals to lesser waste. There’s never a good time, we have to do it.

Runner Xuan Le: When running, we do not anyhow throw cups; at least there are reusable cups, and this clip can be recycled; nothing is wasted, contributing to society through this run, it feels better.

Candy Kwok’s son, Javier Ng: I use a reusable cup because the paper cups can only be used once.

Runner Candy Kwok: (There are no goodies bag given this time, what do you think?) It's alright. Most of the time, we will bring home and just put them aside, so I guess it's alright without them.

Runner Sow Kah Puay: The bib was also used many years ago, through this event, it can save a lot of unnecessary resources.

The Eco-Run is just one medium to inspire people to be aware of environmental sustainability and to build a greener future together.
