Tzu Chi holds Online Sign Language Competition to promote Eco Awareness

Tzu Chi Teachers’ Association and Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre jointly organised an online sign language competition with a theme on environmental protection. Participated by twelve groups of students from five schools, the competition had to be conducted online due to Covid restrictions. Teachers and students spent months rehearsing and making the videos to be presented at the awards ceremony, where everyone witnessed the results of their collective efforts.

Tzu Chi Teachers’ Association of Singapore and Humanistic Youth Centre co-organised an online sign language competition.

Songs which conveyed eco awareness messages were paired with neat sign language performances and made into videos to be showcased at the awards ceremony, presenting the efforts of both teachers and students in the past few months.

Prof Faishal - MP for Nee Soon GRC
This competition involves our youth, our young people. It's important that we start with our young, and inculcate in them the values of caring for the environment and for each other.

Soo Yeen Ting - Member of Tzu Chi Teachers’ Association
Sign language is a gentle way to move people’s heart. With sign language as a medium, more people can participate in the advocacy of vegetarianism to protect the earth.

Tay Lin Na - Nee Soon Silver Generation Office Assistant Manager
Under a situation like this, we didn’t cancel it just because we thought it was impossible. It is very special, I’m impressed.

A total of twelve groups from five schools have participated in the competition. Although the rehearsal and recording process were challenging due to the pandemic, there were much to gain.

Lim Jiajun - Manjusri Secondary School's student
The song 《A Clean Planet》 helps me to encourage and remind people to keep the environment clean, (so that) we can ensure that our next generation may have a better quality of life.

Izhar Ramlan - Chong Fu Primary School's Teacher
This competition serves as a meaningful one for our student leaders. 0050 Our prefects developed empathy as they reach out to other youths on the topic of environmental education.

May everyone work together to build a better world with practical actions.
