Why Character Building Matters More Than Ever in Today’s Education Landscape

Local examinations are highly competitive, and many parents worry their children may fall behind. To gain an edge, they often turn to tutoring and enrichment classes. The Ministry of Education has announced a review of examinations to help ease this “arms race” in education. Beyond academic results, some parents feel that a child’s character and values are what truly determine how far they can go in life. Most parents hope their children will thrive and succeed. As society changes rapidly, many parents dare not take their children’s academic performance lightly, and the “arms race” in education has become a real challenge for families. On Sunday, the Tzu Chi Parent-Child Bonding Class held a Parents’ Day event. 247 parents and children took part in role-playing and short skits. Through light-hearted interaction, they learned to see from each other’s perspective and reflected on the importance of fostering positive character in children.
